aka The Enemy(2011) - with english subtitles

Director:
Dejan Zecevic

Runtime: 108 min

Definitely the best horror film made in Balkans in last 22 years. Totally unorthodox war-life story that happens around a small group of Serbian military de-miners working on fresh minefield in the center of an even more fresher PEACE during 1995. If you liked Korean movies G.P. 506 (2008) and R-Point (2004) from director Su-chang Kong, you will find similar work in this masterpiece, but in a pure & uncut Serbian way.

"Story begins couple of days after the war has ended. A group of soldiers in charge of clearing the fields from mines discovers a man sealed inside a factory's basement. Mysterious man says he is 'ours', he doesn't feel cold, isn't hungry and only asks for cigarettes. As soon as he is brought along, people start disappearing, and the infighting begins. Who is the mystery man?"

Into the Abyss (2011)

Director:
Werner Herzog

Runtime: 107 min

"In his fascinating exploration of a triple homicide case in Conroe, Texas, master filmmaker Werner Herzog (Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Grizzly Man) probes the human psyche to explore why people kill and why a state kills. Through intimate conversations with those involved, including 28-year-old death row inmate Michael Perry (scheduled to die within eight days of appearing on-screen), Herzog achieves what he describes as a gaze into the abyss of the human soul. Herzog s inquiries also extend to the families of the victims and perpetrators as well as a state executioner and pastor who ve been with death row prisoners as they ve taken their final breaths. As he s so often done before, Herzog s investigation unveils layers of humanity, making an enlightening trip out of ominous territory."

Some Nudity Required (1998)

Directors:
Johanna Demetrakas,
Odette Springer

Runtime: 82 min

"Odette Springer is working in the B movie industry as a singer/composer, hating it but needing the work. She begins making this documentary about the low budget sex and slasher flicks and the people who work on them. Along the way, she meets unrepentantly boorish producers, directors arguing the legitimacy of what they're doing and numerous actresses who feel trapped, with no other way to succeed in Hollywood. The project is eye-opening to the viewer...and to Odette herself."

"In this documentary, filmmakers Odette Springer (former music supervisor for Concorde-New Horizons) and Joanna Demetrakas take a look at the exploitative world of grindhouse gore, and trashy slasher films. Trained in classical music, Springer turns self-analytical in this movie memoir, asking herself, "How did I go from Beethoven to 'B' movies?," examining her own S&M leanings and possible abuse when she was a child. Clips include Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold, and Angel of Destruction. Interviews include Roger Corman, American International's Samuel Z. Arkoff, Edward Albert Jr., director Jim Wynorski, Julie Strain, Maria Ford (Stripped to Kill II), and Catherine Cyran (Slumber Party Massacre 3)."

Deadline (2004)

Directors:
Katy Chevigny,
Kirsten Johnson

Runtime: 90 min

"One of the biggest hot-button issues dividing the United States has long been capital punishment, so when Illinois Governor George Ryan, a conservative Republican, commuted the sentences of 167 death row inmates the day before his term ended, it shocked the nation and outraged many in his own party. This documentary from the filmmaking duo of Katy Chevigny and Kirsten Johnson explores not only the investigative work done by a group of Northwestern University journalism students that led to Ryan's staunch opposition to the death penalty, but also the impact the capital punishment debate has on the nation as a whole."

Domestic Violence (2001)

Director:
Frederick Wiseman

Runtime: 196 min

"With Domestic Violence, master documentarian Frederick Wiseman (High School, Titicut Follies) turns his unflinching eye on a topic that society has ignored for far too long. Rather than film actual domestic disputes, a la COPS, Wiseman instead takes a much less exploitative approach, and, in so doing, has created a deeply intelligent, challenging work that will no doubt spark serious discussions wherever it is exhibited (most likely on PBS, with whom the director has a longstanding relationship). Focusing on The Spring, Tampa, which is Florida's largest shelter for abused women and their children, Wiseman's objective camera allows a group of these distraught women to tell their own painful stories. As each new victim bravely shares her tale of horror, it becomes painfully clear just how convoluted and troubling a problem domestic violence actually is, a claim that Wiseman supports technically, through his use of extremely long takes and unobtrusive editing. At 196 minutes, the experience is a draining one, to say the least. But it is stimulating in a way that most films, documentary or otherwise, are not. Staying true to the formula that has made him a cinematic legend, Frederick Wiseman proves once again that there is far more drama in everyday life than in the multiplexes." - by Calculate

GG ALLIN - The Final Hellride (1993, funeral)

Full footage of GG ALLIN'S funeral.

Runtime: 90 min

Wake 7-2-93.
Funeral 7-3-93.
Headstone Memorial 8-28-94.

"Features all you'd expect from a funeral with speeches, tears yet with a few minor differences (photos with the corpse, donating dirty panties, pills and booze for the stay downunder) but the headstone memorial has a touch of scum when Dino gets two drumsticks inserted into his ass by Merle Allin and then takes a piss in a rubbish bin right next to the headstone.

Has some interesting stuff here and there, and it is a weird sight to see GG actually motionless, calm and silent, but less hardcore GG fans may find themselves reaching for the fast forward button a few times like a boring porno."
